Hello what would you recommend me. I would like to buy an external hard drive and transfer all photos and videos of the family there. Everything is currently on my notebook. Since the amount is increasing and a photo is already 35MB, 1 TB is not enough for the next few years. I would rather buy more than 1TB.
Would you prefer an HDD or SSD? Maximum 100 euro issue. Or. What are the differences?
As far as I know, SSD hard drives are faster when it comes to data transfer. In other words, if it is important to you to transfer a large amount frequently, I would recommend an SSD, otherwise an HDD is completely clear
HDD is cheaper, but slower, etc.
For example, I have an external HDD for photos, videos and music. I use it maybe 2-3 times a week. HDD is enough ^^.
SSDs are usually used for operating systems, programs and important data.
Don't have to, but you can ^^
Well I would access it once a month if necessary once a week. Then HDD thanks
With your type of use, I would advise the HDD regardless of the price (which is also the cheaper technology). Peak access times are certainly less important in your case, so an SSD is not necessary.
HDDs are better than SSDs for securely storing large amounts of data. Why? From experience. My first HDD is now 15 years old and still does its job as a data grab as an internal hard drive. So far, no HDD has broken. SSDs, on the other hand, have already failed 3 spontaneously. Backing up data (on HDDs) is thanks, but it was only annoying and not dramatic.
An SSD can't break so quickly
If you drop an HDD on the floor (which is very bad), data can be lost or the hard drive can be completely destroyed.
An SSD is purely electronic and can't break quickly. An SSD is also smaller and faster. And there are also SSDs with a large capacity, except for the price, there are no good reasons for an HDD
For archiving, the cheapest and most durable in my eyes is still the hdd. I have archived pictures & films on HDD that have been used for archiving and playback for 20 years and more. That should first imitate another medium. The DVDs all had read errors after a few years, USB sticks break quickly.
My favorite: the best HDD with 5400 revolutions, which extends the durability even more. Samsung (unfortunately no longer exists) and Hitachi (now HGST) cause the least problems.
But does not bring much if only one HDD is installed in the other device.
Data transmission can only be as fast as the weakest link allows.
In addition to this:
Chip-based data carriers such as SSDs or USB sticks require electricity at regular intervals so that the data is stored securely and is not lost.
Regularly in the sense of 1-2 years.
That doesn't seem like a lot of effort - but I would most likely forget it and find it annoying.
