I would like to transfer data from different devices in order to have my data summarized on a storage medium in the future. Now for the first time when I bought the hard drive, I ran it as specified according to the operating system and it was easily possible to connect it to the cell phone and access the data.
Now I wanted to transfer the most important data from my previous laptop (same operating system that I set the hard disk to) and during the connection, however, only the device detection flopped open - but not the folders of my previously saved data.
I checked whether the data is still available and on the previous medium I was able to access it as usual via the hard drive connection.
Why is it that my other laptop does not display the saved data? Is an internet connection necessary for this? It can't be set up due to the lack of cables and I'm currently unable to use a Wi-Fi connection. You don't need an internet connection to use a USB stick, so I can't explain it.
Hope someone can help me here why it is that the data on laptop B is not displayed while I connect the hard drive, but computer A has no problems with it.
If you are concerned with storing or reading data on the hard drive, no internet connection is necessary (provided the hard drive is connected by cable).
With external devices, such as a cell phone, the https://de.wikipedia.org/...#Microsoft used is the most important factor. With NTFS, you usually don't get far with non-Windows devices. You can try a different file system to test it (of course, if you change the file system, the data will be lost due to the formatting, which is why you should save it beforehand).
Since I'm not a professional in this area, it was just my first thought. It could be something else.
Thank you for your quick reply! So it is primarily about reading out (data display from the files on the FP) and then I just wanted to use it as a storage location to transfer the computer data from it. But since it is quite new, nothing can be broken. The laptop also shows the hard drive name when I connect the cable, just not the data it contains.
That wasn't a problem with the previous one.
What could be broken there? Or do I have to reinstall the hard drive for each connected computer so that the PC can access it? This is not the case with a normal USB stick either.
I would have another news, the second one is set up on several user accounts. I'm now in the user account to which the hard drive was connected for the first time and the introductory installation was linked to operating system selection. Then he recognized the hard drive, but as soon as I switch to the other user account, he only shows me the name of the hard drive. What is that related to?
Sorry, I'm probably overwhelmed. I've never had that before.
It's best to use the menu here to "ask question again".
