Laptop or tablet -?

My aunt (65y) now wants to penetrate the digital world. She has been retired for half a year and previously worked in accounting for 40 years in the office. That means that little PC knowledge is available - but very little. She has no cell phone, let alone a smartphone.

Now she wants to look around the world of the www at home and should now do everything ready for her. So buy hardware completely, set it up and then explain how to use it.

Now I'm thinking about what would make more sense for you, laptop or tablet. Plus multi-printer (laser or ink?) WLAN.

She doesn't write and print great. Mostly internet and writing a letter or printing a picture.

Budget doesn't matter at first, but should also be appropriate…

What would you recommend

lu

Exactly what hardware I can't say now, but think that a laptop is much easier to use

If you buy one I would already see that there's an I5 or Ryzen 5 inside and definitely 8 GB RAM

Ha

I would recommend a laptop but more built than a tablet eg.

Just as an example

This device does not have to be chosen but based on your description I thought of something like that first.

Can be used in a relaxed manner in Windows tablet mode like a tablet.

Yes, as others have said, using touch is a bit more difficult for older people, but to prevent this, you could use a device with both, so you can strap a keyboard underneath! And if necessary, deactivate the touch input!

But can do a little more and less complicated than a normal tablet. That would be my opinion, let me know or let me know what has become of it!

The I5 or Ryzen 5 should be of a newer generation

My

Laptop is not bad.

So that depends on how she will use the device. Does she want to stay mobile or does she mainly use the device at home? If she wants to stay mobile, I would recommend that you equip her with a notebook or a Chromebook. The latter has the advantage that the system is very intuitive and you have no problems with the Chromebook's. These are best suited for surfing, watching videos and more. Listen to music. If you mainly use it at home, I would recommend a PC. If you just want to dive into the world of the www, then I recommend you to buy a DELL Optiplex. In the entry-level configuration you can get it for 400-500 euro. And at the printer I recommend you to buy a laser printer or multi-function color laser printer. I know that they are not cheap, but it is worth it because they are not maintenance intensive. It is all the more worthwhile if it prints little, because toners are used in the laser printers and do not dry them out. In the case of inkjet printers, their manufacturers usually do not earn from the inkjet printers themselves (unless they are expensive), but from the cartridges, because if you buy all the ink cartridges together, they are worth more than the printer itself. In addition, the ink cartridges dry out when used too little, and the printhead is cleaned each time it is initialized, which also consumes ink. Therefore, prefer to buy laser printers. And if she doesn't make scans or copies, she'd rather spend a little more money on a good color laser printer than not enough on a multi-function color laser printer. More details gladly by PN.

Sw

This is completely exaggerated for surfing

Sw

This is not a laptop but a screen.

Sw

Nonsense. Until recently I used a 10 year old i5. It was enough to gamble, it is enough for surfing.

I have a 2004 Pentium 4 laptop next to me. Even that is enough for surfing. Admittedly, videos are becoming scarce. So I would recommend a little more performance.

mo

Laptop e.g. Lenovo

Install e.g. OpenSuSE Linux without an operating system.

In the office, she wasn't a PC administrator anyway. Not too old to forget Windows either.
