I have a screen with 1920 x 1080p and one with 2560 x 1440p (main screen), can the 1920 x 1080p also have a resolution of 2560 x 1440p? It only supports up to 1920 x 1080p… But on my very old laptop, which only supported very poor resolution, it also had a higher resolution than I connected an external monitor.
A monitor can only accept the resolution that it actually accepts.
Too bad.
If it supported a higher resolution, it would be sold as such a screen.
Yes, the monitor / display determines the maximum possible resolution; Windows recognizes this via PnP when detecting the device and makes the resolutions available. If a monitor has FullHD 1920x1080, it can't suddenly display 2560x1440 as well, it lacks the technology for that.
Right
Thanks. But why did the laptop work?
Because the monitor could do more than the display of the laptop and the graphics card could do more than the display.
Okay… But it was a very bad and a very bad graphics card… But I find it strange that the display of the laptop suddenly had 1920 x 1080p…
