I just got the student version of Word and I also signed up and everything. Now I can click on the Office app on my laptop. Then I come to the page where I can choose whether I want to use Word or Powerpoint etc. So when I click on Word and click on "Create new file" it will open in Chrome and I can only do it all through the browser. Can't I also download the Word app and then do everything via my laptop, i.e. Offline? Sorry for the grammar and that I wrote everything so incomprehensibly. I'm just a little confused.
Download "OpenOffice", this is the free correct version.
Log in with the account you received from the school under https://portal.office.com, there should then be a button download Office. If not, then your school has probably only licensed Office Online.
