Does this work as a laptop GPU adapter?

Would this adapter work as an additional slot for a graphics card on a laptop? https://www.otto.de/...=679756738

Sa

Should work but I say so, I can't imagine that the graphics card can use its full performance

Al

Not so. It transmits via USB. And as far as I know, USB can't send a video transmission (or image) to a monitor.
This is because it runs over the South Bridge. And you have to head straight for the NordBridge.

You have to look for something like that. Most notebooks have a Mini PCI connection for WLAN modules. If you build it out and connect such an adapter instead, it will work.

This adapter is now only a product so you can see it figuratively. There are more for about 40 euro that can do exactly the same.

Probably no, that is not possible, because most notebooks have only one Mini PCI Express port internally, in which the WLAN module is then inserted.

However, the adapter requires a regular PCI Express connection.

You should have a riser adapter with Mini-PCI-Express, as Neugierlind already wrote (Before I would look in the notebook, because you have to unscrew it in any case to install such an adapter).

You can't connect this adapter to the notebook from the outside via USB.3.0. The USB socket is only used for bridging the adapter, electrically it is not a USB.

Another disadvantage would be the PCI Express connection if you go to the internal Mini PCI Express port using a riser adapter. Because you have to remove the W_Lan module and then you can only go online via cable LAN or with an additional USB Wi-Fi adapter.

In addition, the use is limited to very simple graphics cards that can draw max 75Watt power (Max a GTX 1050 (TI) or similar). And even these cards can hardly use your potential, since the connection with Mini-PCI-Express often happens only with a single lane.

If your notebook has a Thunderbold 3 interface, you can use another more powerful adapter:

So I still have an m.2 SSD slot in the laptop.

Then you can try such an adapter:

But it remains that this could work with small graphics cards and not with large ones.
