Quarantined file although not opened or installed?

I have two computers in my home. A desktop PC with Windows 10 that is connected to the Internet, a laptop with Win XP that is not connected to the Internet (I actually only use this if I feel like playing an old computer game or now to for me privately to translate an English language role playing adventure into German).

For this work in particular, I downloaded an English-language dictionary from my desktop PC (free of charge), but did not install it on the Win-10 computer, but pushed it to a USB, then deleted it from the computer and installed the program on the laptop.
However, that was a few days ago.

Today Windows Bit-Defender informed me that he had quarantined the file. Now I'm unsure because I deleted this file. Can something actually happen even if I have not installed the program on the desktop PC?

I thank you in advance for the answers

If the virus is on your PC, it can be messing around in your system. The worst virus would be one that attacks the hardware. Something like that is very rare, most likely is spysoftware, so spy. Just see if you have the option to completely delete the file in quarantine. Otherwise leave them in there.

And it can always happen that he has temp files and other things inside, even if you delete the program.

And it is enough for a virus to be downloaded, you don't have to install it.

Bi

Since you have probably not completely deleted the download.

Usually nothing happens if the corresponding file is not opened.

Don't worry, as long as you don't have it installed on the Win 10 PC, nothing can happen.

Bitdefender only found the virus in the trash or in the temporary files of the browser.

A virus only becomes active during installation, so the XP computer could now be infected if it is not a false positive.

@ewigsuzu: 99.9% of viruses only become active if you install them.

Exceptions are worms that spread themselves or infected Word files, where you have to activate a macro. However, both exceptions do not come to the PC by downloading an installation file.

True my mistake.

Not bad! 💖

Thanks for the answer and at the same time an apology for only now that i answer. At the moment I rarely sit at the computer and deal with things that the Ratterkiste can't do. It sometimes takes a while until I report again.
Regardless of that, your answer reassured me:-)

Heiho,

thanks for the answer and also to you at the same time the apology for the time until I answered. As I have already written, I'm rarely on the computer at the moment and am currently engaged in activities that have nothing to do with computers. That is why I'm only reporting so late.

Wasn't really a bad intention.

I'm very happy with Tichu players, and not so much sitting on the PC is not that bad. 😊
