Can too many programs overheat and crash like a smartphone, or do not you have to worry about that?

Well, I can only speak from experience now, I doubt that's the case everywhere. I have a notebook from HP, envy x360 15 "that means about a year ago I tried to play a game with it After about 20 minutes and felt 100db fan noise, I had a whitescreen for a minute, before the notebook Since then, I have always had green graphics errors…

That depends on whether the notebook is designed for operation without a fan. If so, then nothing happens.

If it's not designed to do so, it will overheat and the processor will first throttle the core frequency and shut down at the end.

Overheating? Not when hardware and software do their job. If the CPU has to work hard and it gets permanently warm, it will be clocked down to avoid overheating. Clear that the box then works slower.
