Absolute luxury problem, but maybe someone has an idea?
We have an external hard drive for movies that has about 400 movies. If you lie on the sofa in the evening, you will see many folders with movie names on the TV. Some are known, others say nothing…
You could of course look in the mobile phone (laptop, PC, tablets) to see what kind of movie it is (ie action, etc.) but this is not synonymous somehow without?
Have tried it with Kodi, but neither hard drive nor USB stick are recognized.

Kodi should actually be the tool of choice. If disk is not found, this should only be a matter of preference.
Otherwise you could also use Plex (I myself use it for over 5 years), if that is available on the SmartTV.
