I sold a laptop with Windows 10. I had a 1 month trial version of McAfee from the beginning and it has now expired. Windows Defender is available for Windows laptops, but it is deactivated as far as I know because McAfee is activated. Since the test subscription has expired, this McAfee actually does nothing for me, so how can I activate Windows Defender and deactivate McAfee or is that not necessary? LG

then use defender OR avira
Tie complete shutdown and then mouthguard to the fans.
In the McAfee settings there should be a button to uninstall. Otherwise, try the uninstall manager (I think it's actually called different…), but it may well be that McAfee blocks this for security reasons.
By the way, I recommend using Windows Defender, Malwarebytes or Kaspersky.
So I have to uninstall mcafee so that I can activate defender?
I did it with Kaspersky IS, I uninstalled KIS (in your case McAfee). And after I had to restart after the uninstallation, Windows 10 already complained that I had no active virus protection and immediately offered to activate Windows Defender.
So it was relatively easy.
Uninstall McAfee (either in the app management, or via control panel / programs and functions)
Activate Windows Defender or activate it (normally Windows 10 reports itself)
And how does it work with the 1.5 - 2m distance? * lol *
Buy wireless mouse and keyboard.
Read through here if that shouldn't help: https://service.mcafee.com/webcenter/portal/oracle/webcenter/page/scopedMD/s55728c97_466d_4ddb_952d_05484ea932c6/Page29.jspx?wc.contextURL=%2Fspaces%2Fcp&locale=de-DE&articleId=TS101331&leftWidth=0%25&showFooter=false&showHeader=false&rightWidth=0%25¢erWidth=100%25
Thank you, did it. How do I see if Defender is activated? Am just in there and already see all the Defender functions activated from left to right?
Active things have a… I think a green check mark, or a green symbol with a white check mark. Something green anyway.
-> green circle, with white ticks ;-)
Not necessarily but otherwise your system can become unstable
