Laptop, Thunderbird installation for email. Password required?

The above question is mainly aimed at IT experts (see also my question from yesterday).

Since I could no longer check my e-mails and Thunderbird was recommended to me on my request yesterday, I immediately got in touch with the specialist who had sold me the laptop at the time. I was then also confirmed that the current system was a discontinued model and that Thunderbird should be installed. Since all of the computer technology for me, who had grown up in a different generation, is literally a book with seven seals, I asked the person I was talking to if he could install Thunderbird for me, whereupon he agreed and asked me for the passwords for my two e- Mail addresses asked. I really only understood the station. I gave him to understand that I could not remember ever having received passwords for them, to which he replied that I had to have these passwords in the documents and at the same time emphasized that without these passwords he could not install Thunderbird. End of announcement!

Before the whole thing turned into an argument, I broke off the conversation and now have the firm intention of going to another specialist shop near me, in which I have already received excellent service because of another computer problem - and this by an apprentice! - Have Thunderbird installed.

Now I come to my real question: Is it really impossible to do this installation without a password? Somehow I can't imagine this at all, because I think that there will certainly be ways and possibilities to carry out this work even without a corresponding password.

Thank you for reading this rather extensive request and for your helpful answers.

Of course, Thunderbird can also be installed without access to email accounts. You will then only have the program and will not be able to use your email accounts in it. Without this access data, the installation of Thunderbird makes no sense - you have been advised correctly.

Does this mean that I can never access my e-mails without passwords?

Of course, it was never my intention to install this program, but apparently there's nothing else to do, as I can no longer check my mail even with the old system.

I agree. In any case, you need the access data for the e-mail account to access this and the e-mails located there.

However, I don't see any need to install Thunderbird to solve your problem. What is preventing you from checking your "old system" emails? If it's just the password, installing any other program is no solution.

I think we're wrong. Please read my last question from yesterday again. Then I asked that I could no longer call up emails with the current system and why this might be, which a user recommended Thunderbird to me.

And the person who sold me the laptop at the time said on the phone that the reason was precisely that the program that had been installed up to now had expired and Thunderbird was currently to be installed.

I would be the last one who would just have a new program installed without need…

Just to make it more precise. I now hope that I have expressed myself clearly enough.

The thing with the e-mails works fine again, but the whole thing was quite time-consuming. Without outside help I would never have managed this. I asked what the exact reason for the problems was, but I can no longer say, as technically completely untalented. For me as a layman, the only thing that counts is that from today I can email and receive emails myself again.

Since nobody else answered except you, you will also receive the award as the most helpful answer.
