Thunderbird - encrypt filed 'ASCII' mails?

Suppose my laptop was stolen. And the hard drive would not be fully encrypted because it has many disadvantages.

If you have some knowledge of computers, you can get access to my files. The Windows password is not a protection that prevents a skilled person.

He will find my mails that I manage in Thunderbird and can make them visible with an ASCII editor. With the necessary diligence, he can study a few thousand emails and find information, addresses, access and key figures with which he can do a lot of bad things: have something reset a password online and take over an account.

Does anyone have a good solution for this that does not require tedious waiting for decryption (VeraCrypt) or constant password entry with every access?

The Enigmail add-on is installed in my Thunderbird. I thought it would save the emails encrypted. But my editor still finds them accessible as Ascii.

Thanks for hints on how to deal with the question.

So with 7zip you can encrypt documents (that's how I always do it)

But unfortunately you can see it in Firefox File: / D: Enter it but not open it

With 7zip? But that's not really certain…

That's the problem. If you right click on it, you can also open it with other software. Apart from the fact that "seeing" is enough to recognize a password or confidential information.

You don't want to have to keep entering the password?
Fortunately, as an attacker I don't have to!

And VeraCrypt is not that slow. Can you make the algorithm weaker or the PIM.
In any case weakens the protection.

Do you want encryption? Then you will also have to decipher it.

Full encryption is the best choice.

I myself only use it on my laptop because I have to boot my PC at least to Windows to access it remotely even without my presence.
The important rest then lies in encrypted containers.

The file is already encrypted. (So the content is illegible)

But of course not invisible. That's what he means.

If there would be an addon that encrypts your emails on the PC, you must of course always enter the password for decryption. Of course you can possibly save this in the Thunderbird so that you no longer have to enter it, BUT then anyone who opens the Thunderbird can read it.

Hm you can see the content if you are in Firefox File. Drive)?
