Remove LAN cable constantly, harmful?

I use a Lan cable for my laptop and for my PS4. I always switch this, is it harmful to take out a LAN cable all the time, etc?

se

If you always press the little bibus while pulling it out, nothing should happen to the cable;)

Ar

In the long run, this is not ideal. At some point the nose will break off if it isn't already. Unless you bend the cable in any way, the rest is pretty insensitive. I would still recommend a small switch and 2 individual cables.

Mo

As long as you don't force the LAN cable into the PS4, nothing can happen.

All plug systems (and specific plugs / sockets) are specified for a typical number of cycles, this is limited.

With RJ-45, the locking nipple of the plug is something that gets tired quite quickly, then the spring contacts in the socket follow.

Correspondingly, the connectivity will eventually deteriorate or fail.

ma

Such Ethernet plugs and RJ45 sockets are actually built for permanent connections. However, neither plug nor socket ever broke because of it. It is much more preferable to break off the tabs on the connector.

Na

That's the way it is! The standard defines 750 plug cycles for the electrical contacts for RJ-45 plugs. If you stick 2 times a day, the value is reached after about a year. The locking nipple is usually broken beforehand.

pl

There are supposed to be manufacturers who promise more cycles, but either way, the contact resistance will increase over time and at some point there will be typical on / off problems.
