Connect SSD to laptop?

My father might want to buy a new SSD for his laptop and to show him how fast it is in comparison, I took the old hard drive and the SSD out of my PC.

But when I start the laptop it stands

"No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key"

But the SSD still worked fine on my PC afterwards. (Windows 10)

How can I get the SSD to start on the laptop, do I have to change anything?

Mo

You probably have to switch to UEFI boot device and if you have installed an M.2 SSD, then you may have to activate the M.2 port and set it to AHCI or NVME

Fo

Just have to switch the boot priority to hard drive

Li

Activate the SSD connection as a boot port in the BIOS! And of course you also have to have a bootable operating system installed on the SSD…

su

The hard drive is already in position number 1, I tried to select it manually before - no success.

su

Windows 10 is installed on the SSD, as I said.

But how can I activate the SSD port?

The SSD is definitely recognized with the correct name and size.

su

AHCI is switched on, but is not NVME, and the SSD is already at the top of the boot priority.

Li

To do this, you have to go into the BIOS. You start the computer and immediately afterwards press the respective key (sometimes this is the F1 key, sometimes the F5 or the F11. Usually this is displayed at startup (e.g. "for entering BIOS, press F5")

Mo

I can't think of too much at the moment, otherwise try a BIOS reset

su

Well, I'm already in the BIOS, but what could the setting be called roughly?

su

How Just use standard settings?

Li

Usually this is called boot priority. But it is not the same for every BIOS.

Mo

Remove the power cable from the power supply unit, set it to 0 and press the power button once. Then remove the BIOS battery, wait 10 seconds and reinsert it. Alternatively use the jumper.
