CPU descriptions usually say something like "Turbo Boost up to 3.2 GHz". What does TurboBoost mean, how can you switch this on and what do you need it for? (I'm using a laptop)
That is the performance under full load. That means if you are only on the desktop or something, the processor does not run at full power, since it does not need it. And when it is needed, we will be used all the more. It only means what the maximum clock (i.e. Performance) of the CPU is.
Why then do the technology companies not always write the maximum clock rate, but always write "up to"?
"Up to" means as much as maximum.
As far as I know, the TurboBoost is activated even when the processor is busy. However, the turbo clock can only be kept for a limited time.
