Run your laptop at half the clock speed for longer battery life?

Does that work? I felt I had more battery life, does anyone have any experience? Haven't measured it concretely until now

Have an i5 8265u

Now runs with 0.9 instead of 1.6 (even without turboboost 3.9) Ghz

I'm satisfied with the speed. Everything is going great

Yes it does indeed work. Due to the lower clocking, the transistors switch correspondingly less, which consequently results in a "current saving". Unfortunately, I can't tell you how much that actually matters.

Cool thanks. I felt like I got out for 1-2 hours. Have to measure that.

Yes, as I said, it works. If you want to get the best out of it, set the cooling policy to "passive". Then the fan is not used when the temperature rises, but rather the processor's clock rate is reduced first. This also saves energy.

va

Kotrect. Can you still check where I'm doing this

Za

System → Energy Options → Advanced Energy Options → Processor → Cooling Policy

Set both menus to passive there.

I leave my Core i5-4310m (TDP = 35 watts) as far as sufficient, depending on the application, at max. 1.0 to 1.2 Ghz. With a brightness of 40 to 50%, I get an average power consumption of approx. 15 to 17 watts on this book. (measured on the primary side of the power supply while surfing the Internet with Wi-Fi)

When playing (Hayday with emulator), I get around 20 to 25 watts on the primary side.

The fan has next to nothing to do and almost always stays at the lowest level with a target temperature of around 50 to 55 degrees.

Ok thanks. Actually, I'm not that passive, but I'll give it a try.

🤣👍
