Why don't smartphones have loud fans?

The new smartphones of today are sometimes even faster and better than some PCs. Then why do you never hear cooling there?

Even at high load with complex games you can't hear anything with smartphones, but with PCs / laptops even if you are not even in the game. Why is that?

Ta

The cooling requirement for smartphones has increased again in recent years. But unlike a notebook or PC, a smartphone doesn't have a fan when it gets warm. The state of the art is a so-called heat pipe, i.e. A tube that dissipates heat from the inside to the outside.

No that's not true. A pc actually always has more power, but is based on x86. A cell phone is based on poor, which simply gets a lot more performance out of it if the programs are written for it. Also, cell phones are clocked much slower than PCs, and the clock rate is what determines the temperature.

Thanks for your answer.

And why don't PCs / laptops have such a quiet heat pipe?

Ta

Because these would not be effective enough for today's PCs. Especially when we're talking about powerful devices (e.g. Gaming PCs).

OK

Ca

Because the ARM CPUs are so economical that they hardly develop any heat that needs to be dissipated.

And no, a cell phone is nowhere near faster than a PC. Unless you use a 20 year old PC as a comparison. Then a cell phone is faster.

But a few days ago I read about a cell phone that actually has a fan. I don't know the details because I wasn't interested in the article.

A PC has a lot more power. This requires more electricity, which leads to more waste heat. Of course, that must also be removed.

Ca

That's not entirely true… There are also heat pipes in PCs. Since they can only transport the heat because their surface is much too small, you need fins and fans to get the heat transported away from the heat pipes. A well-built cooler doesn't have to be loud anymore.

Heat pipes dissipate the heat so efficiently that until today only water cooling makes it better. Without these things, coolers in the PC would be much louder because they would have to be built much smaller.

Pe

Because cell phones are not that fast
you only know PCs with an active fan

There are both https://www.amazon.de/...08R397Q59/ r and https://www.silentmaxx.de/

I've only been using fanless computer technology for a long time!

Pe

Just look for "Silent-PC"! There are no fans even for high-performance PCs

Ca

I know something like that, I've trimmed my PC to silent myself. But you almost always can't do without a fan. Even if all the coolers in a PC were passive, the heat has to somehow get out again. The problem with such passive solutions is that the temperatures under load are no longer acceptable. That is why such completely passive solutions are only suitable for applications that do not require a lot of load. For example HTPCs or a pure file server. What you have to pay for such solutions is mostly in no way related to an active cooler trimmed for silent.

Although I use active coolers when idling, my PC is so quiet that it has happened to me that I accidentally switched it off when I left it on overnight and the monitor was off.

Okay, I don't play "high performance games". I use my silent PC for browser games (ForgeofEmpire) and WhatsApp, Audials music and from time to time the mail program also run.
The PC becomes approximately lukewarm at a room temperature of approx. 22 ° C!

Ca

What you do hardly needs any performance. You probably won't have a Ryzen 5000 anything or Intel 11000 anyway CPU with which you can heat your apartment in winter xD

Passive operation is of course great for what you do.

I used to have it on my AMD K5-III. I think it was the K5. I've had a lot of CPUs.
