On this DVD there are stickers that say "General". I have already tried to play them on two laptops, but it didn't work. Could it have something to do with it? What does this "general" mean?

No, it's not that. The G for General is the Australian equivalent of FSK 0, therefore General → Suitable for everyone. Your problem lies elsewhere, maybe the DVD is simply defective.
