My parents bought me an Xtra PC?

So I have a laptop with 2 GB of RAM and a 70 GB HDD. So a pretty old rust arbor. I wanted one with 8 GB RAM and an SSD for Christmas, but my parents got me a 16 GB stick from xtra pc for 30 euro. Here's an ad from them:

So that's a linux on it. And they got that thing for me for 30 euro. I already knew the thing from the advertising and knew that it was scam but my parents say that I'm an ungrateful child. They mean that many are too satisfied with it.

My question is do i know how to solve this with my parents, i have a really bad breath at home

Ja

So with such an advertisement, I can only say that it's kidding. And I don't recommend using this stick. Normal RAM rigs are priced the same as this stick, but they can do more in return.

Just ask your parents if they can't return this stick and maybe buy a RAM Rigel for the same price in an e-shop.

te

Why don't you buy or save something yourself. If your parents have little money they have at least tried to fulfill your wish for little money. You can't be selfish either!

Sa

It's not a scam, just a massively overpriced USB stick with Lubuntu on it

The money is not the problem. They should have bought me something else but not this junk that rips you off. Even if it was something simple, I would have been happy.

I find the offer rather cheeky. The cost of goods is 0. A 16GB USB stick costs next to nothing to buy and a portable Linux is free and charge 30 euro for it?

They would have invested the 30 euro in a 250GB SSD, you would have had more of that.

te

Then consider an alternative in this price segment. Then you can send the stick back and order the alternative. A new notebook doesn't just cost 30 euro

Aa

Uh yes, that thing is that everyone can make themselves. Lubuntu is free and such a stick is cheap.

I assume that your parents have absolutely no idea about computers and only meant well.

What you want and what you get are 2 different shoes. I don't know how you told your parents that they were cheated on outrageously, but I think anything but friendly.

They just thought they found a cheaper solution than spending 500 euro on a new laptop. Honestly, your disappointment, but the wrong choice of gifts is an extremely hot topic even among adults and requires extreme caution.

First of all, the rule applies: "You don't look a gift horse in the mouth". You thank them dutifully and try as best you can to swallow the bitter pill.

I think the house blessing is not hanging wrong with you because you clicked on them that the thing is no good, but because you literally knocked the gift over their ears.

My recommendation swallow your anger, make yourself small (even if it is difficult and you somehow feel right), apologize to your parents for your (over) reaction. (I'm almost 60 and my life was full of ugly crochet scarves, ties that I never wore. Electronic kits that would have been too little even for a kindergarten child. Programming manuals that were below my level and… And… And… Then you thank them dutifully and throw the part with the other unusable gifts in the junk box…)

Agree with your parents that they should better ask next time so that there's no such annoyance in the first place. You are no longer little children who truly believe in Santa Claus. In this respect, you can talk about how a wish could be fulfilled and whether a voucher from Conrad / Cyperport / Alternate / Caseking etc would be the better solution next time. Then you can calmly determine how much you contribute to a great wish and how you fill the whole thing up to the full product.

… If you can hardly raise your value on a better computer, you can also turn to a small computer workshop in the area, they always have a few devices for the little ones to spare. (I build / repair computers and there are always a few passable old parts that go out as "social computers" for a thank you… This is the case with almost all "computer freaks"…)

PS: show you my answer…

I checked your questions once…

To become a computer scientist you don't need a gaming laptop, but a computer, a monitor and a keyboard.

I started with a

My parents bought me an Xtra PC

https://de.wikipedia.org/...nt%20wurde. @ 750kHz + 16KB Ram and a cigar box with bell buttons as a keyboard. The first "real" computer was a 286 / 16MHz 1MB Ram 20MBHDD. No more was necessary to program…

On the contrary, it was precisely the lack of performance that demanded all my creativity to write programs that ran on the lamest "rust bower"…

You don't need a gamig calculator to play games to learn the basics of computer science / programming. And please don't tell me you want to develop 3D games… You start with "Hello world" and you need at least 3 months until you have the basic concepts of modern programming languages on the box. You are still years away from games.

For the first 3D models I had an Athlon XP 64 and an Nvidia 440MX and you don't need more to test a simple 3D application.

Aa

I clarified that with my parents after the question and said that although I don't need a gaming laoptop, it just needs a little more performance. I would also be happy if you had upgraded the thing. The only problem is that my parents don't want to see that it's a rip off.

Ja

Ignored my answer, I misread the question above out of stupidity. XD

Aa

No your idea is not bad

Ja

Yes, but the question was about a usb stick as a storage medium not as a RAM replacement.

Ja

But 30 euro for a 16GB USB stick is a rip off, SanDisk gives ne SSD which has 120GB and also costs 30 euro. So it's a bit strange
