Wlan router is not recognized on laptop?

I'm trying to connect a Vodafone router via Wi-Fi with my laptop. However, the device does not even appear on the Wi-Fi list. In other devices such as mobile phone, tablet and PC (via LAN cable) everything worked without problems. Is it just because the laptop has been around for a couple of years or am I missing something? Of course, the laptop is in Wi-Fi range and as other networks are displayed, the laptop will probably not be broken.

Maybe only the 5ghz Wlan is activated in the router and the laptop has only 2.4ghz?

How do you change that?

That is certainly in the manual of the router… In principle, you must be able to access with an already connected device via an IP in the browser on the settings interface of the router:-)

Has nothing to do with age.

I'm writing to you right now from a 13-year-old HP EliteBook.

Wi-Fi was never a problem.

You write, that the other devices over cable the Lan recognize.

That's what your notebook will guarantee.

Just connect via a cable. Goes to 100%

It is therefore a matter of adjustment if the router does not recognize the wlan.

Other networks that are displayed to the neighbors… Consequently, your good old notebook is Ok.

There are settings on the router that do not allow all connections. But not at first shown, as the router spins.

In the simplest case… Resetting. Remove power for 10 seconds and wait until it recovers.

10 seconds because you can get high voltage electrical problems in a short time. Do not think about anything else… I'm just throwing myself away.

Maybe that's enough.

I used to have crashed routers.

Thank you for your help. Will I try it tomorrow!

Let's assume that your laptop is WLAN-capable like the vast majority. Presumably you did not activate the WLAN connection on the laptop. For this you need the wireless key of your router. Do that with the Control Panel / Networks. Once set up, the connection stays on forever. Normally this should not take more than 3 minutes, assuming you have the network key, which you will usually find on a sticker on the router. Ricardo
