Of course that depends on what you want exactly on the computer and what you have exactly for needs: small or large laptop, large storage capacity, specific operating system, large RAM, CD drive, …
But at university, many of us have the Lenovo Thinkpad. That should be quite good…
I've been a student for years with my old ASUS notebook. Although hardly has space and RAM, but take USB flash drives and the cloud for my data. Enough for my purposes.
Depends on what you have in mind, but only for "writing stuff" is enough for almost everyone. But would take such a 450-500 euro, which keeps then a few years ago.
