Can a monitor get a virus?

Hello wanted to ask whether I can safely connect my monitor to my laptop, which has been around for a few years and which also has a decent number of viruses and whether these can somehow be transferred to the monitor and I wanted to mention that I have it I also want to use the monitor for my PC and do not want any viruses on it that are transmitted to my PC
