External hard drive hangs constantly, what to do?
At the beginning I was able to copy 3 - 5 GB Am piece from a smaller external hard drive (= 500 GB version) to my big external hard drive (= 8 TB version).
Over time, the transmission rate and the number of remaining files froze. I click on "Cancel", but that loads too slowly. I lost patience and turned off the external hard drives. But the "cancel" process does not seem to affect that at all. Therefore I had to pull out the plug of the laptop and switch on again.
I figured that was probably blocking something and tested that with the "Glary Utilities" PC Cleaner: And actually 3 GB of temporary files clogged my laptop. So have it cleaned.
But after further copied 3GB, again the problem, but my pc cleaner found only 8MB Temporary files. And after cleaning it did not get better. It seems like it would clog elsewhere, but unfortunately I do not know where. Have again turned on several times, without improvement.
Are there any computer experts here who know the problem or know how to solve it? I'm completely at a loss.
Please check your hard disk format. If z.b FAT32 then change to NTFS. FAT can only get up to 4GB and that mostly unsafe.
You should uninstall your Glary Utilities, which makes the part can also Windows with Boardmittel. Too many cooks spoil the broth.
Best, please a step-by-step guide: Where / What do I have to click to change the disk format if necessary?
You mean, Windows has its own PC cleaner?
What's his name? Where can I find this? How do I start that?
Click hard disk with the right mouse button. There you can format the hard drive and previously set the "format": eg NTFS or FAT.
…
The same applies to clean up disk, such as delete temporary files or Cokis etc.
…
Or read this, with pictures:

Well, I've looked at it: If I go in "Formatting…", there's already the value "NTFS (default)" already selected.
But when I look at the right-click, in the "properties", there's "file system: FAT32".
Something is wrong, right? Should I really do the formatting? Is that really then then switched to "NTFS"?
Oh yes, erase temporary files or cookies, there's nowhere. There's only the point "Disk Defragment".
One is how he would format the HDD, the other is how the HDD is formatted.
Here's how to delete Temp. Etc.

Thank you!
Found out yesterday:
It was up to the files: Fortunately mostly for me-unimportant files. They can't be copied. I always have to leave that out.
Because I tried out, if I can copy the next file, and it worked! Some were also broken, I had to skip that too.
I have one more question: Since you are a computer expert:
I have another hard drive with 2 partitions:
H: has 96 GB almost completely full of data stored on it,
J: has occupied 60 GB of 110 GB, 50 GB available
Now my question: Since the partition has J: 50 GB available, I could downsize the partition J: but by 10 GB, and this 10 GB after the partition H: add, right? Or, generally, by shrinking ALL data on partition J: is lost, even though there's more than enough free space available?
The reason why I need more space for H: Since it is so full, I can't open / load some files / folders completely.
Example: There are 24,000 pictures and photos in a folder. I can easily view the folder, but if I go in, then the loading of pictures and photos takes forever (= It really does not end), especially when I scroll down to the next pictures. Oh, by that I mean in the folder of the images make a right click, click on "View" and select "Large Icons": Therefore, I actually mean: The loading of the symbols takes forever when scrolling.
I can't mark the pictures and photos and copy them to my 8 TB external hard drive.
Just copying over the whole folder, I've already tried, but does not work: Because if a defective image is there, then the copying, and it does not continue, because there's NO question "skip file" or something.
Apparently the system bites its teeth rather than skipping it.
And yes, I have also tried programs that skip broken files during the copy process. But these failed, too.
And it's not just a single broken picture. There will be a few: 10 or 100, spread over 24,000
