Windows7 to windows10?

I have a samsung laptop with windows 7. For a few days / weeks it shows that I should switch to windows10.

hmm… If you are a tech wreck like me it gets problematic…

can I simply change the system and if so how?

Or is it advisable to buy a new lapi right away? But if, for example, Windows11 is coming, I have the same problems.

Who can help me there?

No

A few days ago I got an old laptop with Win 8 from me to Win 10 with the Media Creation Tool. Before that, the laptop was very lame, wanted to sell it for little money, but after the update to Win 10, which went very well, it runs great again and will continue to use it.

It's easy and free with the Windows 10 Update Assistant:

So for a new operating system you should never pick up a new device especially in the case of a laptop. You can upgrade it with no losses. Or set up again with either a CD or USB boot stick. Since you have little experience, I advise you to save everything important and buy Windows 10 CD on Ebay for 20 euro, and then set it up cleanly.

The timing of Win11 is still written in the stars.

The easiest way to switch from Win7 to Win10 is to do a free Win10 upgrade. - I already upgraded in 2016.
It's pretty easy - without an installation DVD.
Your data, settings and installed programs are retained.

How to do this is shown here, see:

And here the settings to be made are shown in more detail:

Important:
If this is a laptop, fully charge the battery beforehand and also connect the power adapter as a precaution.

Also make sure that the laptop / PC is connected to the Internet via LAN.

Expect a good 2.5 hours.

I forgot: Before you start the upgrade, uninstall your virus protection program.

If your device is not very old and can run Windows 7 with no issues in terms of performance, then there shouldn't be any problems on Windows 10 either. RAM should be installed at least 4 GB. An SSD is also an advantage for a significant speed boost. Current, more powerful notebooks would otherwise be available for 300 - 400 euro.

You can upgrade to Windows 10 for free by upgrading. The free upgrade was officially discontinued, but it still works with a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license.

It all happens automatically. In the end, you usually have all your data. However, you should still back up your important files on a USB stick or an external hard drive beforehand. With such an upgrade, something can always go wrong.

The Media Creation Tool from Microsoft is available for the upgrade: https://www.microsoft.com/.../windows10

After downloading and opening the program, there's an option to upgrade. Then just follow all the steps here.

As far as Windows 10 is concerned, the operating system is of course more secure than Windows 7 due to the existing updates, but also more powerful. On the negative side, some may see privacy issues on Windows 10. However, you can also deactivate various functions in this regard if necessary. This can be done quickly and easily, for example via O&O ShutUp10: https://www.oo-software.com/de/shutup10

Visually, you also have to get used to Windows 10 if you switch from Windows 7 and have never used Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. In my opinion, the biggest changes are the new start menu and the tiles. The tiles can be completely ignored, I don't use them at all. I have adapted the start menu so that it is structured as in Windows 7. This works with the free program Classic Shell: http://www.classicshell.net/

There you can also make some other options. There's, for example, an annoying so-called "Charms Bar" under Windows 10, which opens as soon as you move the mouse pointer into one of the corners of the right half of the screen. I also deactivated it via Classic Shell and also all other corners that trigger something.

Thank you very much for the detailed description.

I've already done some things. I use the weekend to install the rest… Classic Shell

Happy and thank you too!
