Apple M1 for video editing?

How well is the M1 suitable for video editing?

I would like to buy a compact notebook for image editing, but it is also used from time to time for video editing.

At the moment I'm thinking of buying the MB Air.

Te

Would definitely be too small for me to cut - I already need 2x 24 'to do it effectively.

Ba

I still have a 34 incher at home. To which it is connected. I won't actually cut on the way.

Sa

Which programs do you use or do you want to use? Does it have to be Apple?

Ba

I use DaVinci Resolve for video editing.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Apple, but I like the price and the form factor of the MB Air (1-2 inches are still possible for the screen).

ma

Have a look at the current ct, because the M1 has already been subjected to a reasonably reasonable short practical test

Ba

Unfortunately I have not subscribed.

ma

You can also buy it as a single issue in the well-stocked kiosk or online in the heise shop

The M1 inserts damn fast and easily outshines Intel. Even the new little MacBook Air beats the Apple Intel boxes by lengths. Buy the M1 MacPro, and FinalCut, you can connect a 6K screen or the M1 MacMini, a 6K and a 4K screen can be used.

Ba

I just haven't understood yet why the MacPro costs 300 euro more than the Air.

As far as I know, the only differences are that it has active cooling and the touchbar (which I haven't understood yet) compared to the Air

Ba

But you would say that it has a great performance in connection with FinalCut.

Ka

Yes, the M1Chip has been specially designed for these tasks, such as video editing and image processing.

Ka

Active cooling is important if you cut a lot.

I only use iMovie and I love it.

Ba

Would you take 8 or 16GB of RAM? Under Windows with an Intel processor I would say 32GB, but what about the M1 since the RAM is integrated into the processor.

Ma

In addition to the already mentioned active cooling (quite important for video editing) and the touchbar, only 7 graphics cores are active in the MBA (in the Pro there are all 8). The MBP also has a slightly brighter display and a slightly larger battery.

Ba

The Air is also available with 8 active cores.

Ka

16GB and 512GB SSD. I have my cutting material, mostly on an external SSD. Is fast enough.
