Dual or single channel big difference?

Setup 1: 4GB soldered RAM / 8 GB RAM in the slot, i.e. 12 GB.

Setup 2: 4GB soldered RAM / 4 GB RAM in the slot, i.e. 8 GB.

Does it make a big difference whether I use dual channel as in setup 1. I would like to have more than 8GB of RAM.

Is a pure office laptop, maybe a little coding, but nothing more.

What do you all mean?

It depends. Depending on how much the CPU is limited, it brings a lot or nothing. If only 15 GB / s are required, it doesn't matter that 48 GB / s are available. If the requirement is 50 and there are only 20 GB / s because of single channel instead of the possible 40, it looks completely different.

With the iGPU, it has a particularly strong effect, since it is extremely dependent on the memory. In the case of the CPU, memory transfers are only a part and therefore the performance only scales within a certain framework.

Dual Channel simply lets your RAM work in parallel with each other
