The black display is actually not a problem for me, because I think I can still navigate blindly through my cell phone and start the connection. Since I have not made a Whatsapp backup, I definitely want to pull down the last local backup, but what about the rest of the data? Can I drag my app onto the laptop, or is that not possible? Or is it possible to project my mobile phone onto the screen of my laptop and then make the backups there via a usb connection without additional apps on the mobile phone?

I always do this with an app. Most providers have their own app for this. At Samsung it is called "Smart Switch" and at Huawei / Honor "Phone Clone".
These apps transfer everything to a new phone. But I don't know whether the controls will work if you can't see anything on one cell phone because the display stays black.

Don't know if it works like this, because I've never tried it, but when I connect my cell phone with a cable there's a "cell phone folder" so to speak. I just don't know if you can move it to your PC.
