Disable updates on the laptop?

I looked at several instructions and also videos, how to turn off (automatic) updates. I thought I did it, but my laptop still wants to keep getting updates. If I make him out, he still does some. Otherwise he always asks me when I want to do this. Generally I do not want updates because I realize he is slowing down.
