Two AUX ports but headphones only with one cable?

So my laptop has two AUX ports - one for headphones and one for the microphone - I hear it all, but in voice chat the quality of what I said is really bad, since the laptop uses the built-in microphone when I plugged in the headphones: /

How can I use the microphone built into the headset instead of the microphone built into the laptop?

There are adapters where you use. Then you can use mobile phone headsets on the laptop. Have to see what fits to your headset.
