4 pin in ear headphones with microphone, but micro is not detected?

I use 3.5 jack and 4 pin in ear headphones (cable) with microphones. The new laptop has several ports, u.a. One for headphones and one for microphone.

I have the headphones plugged in the headphone port. Would not the microphone work now, since it is a 4 pin plug? For that I do not really need a Y adapter!

If I plug the headphones into the microphone port, the microphone will not work (and of course the sound will come out of the notebook speakers).

I insert them in the headphone connection, I'm asked: 1.Headphones 2.Lautsprecherausgang 3.S / PDIF output (no idea what this means)

How do I make the headphones and microphone work?

No

For notebooks, you can usually decide in the system control whether the jack should be used as a microphone or headphone jack. Both are not possible at the same time. The socket also has only 3 contacts.

I think that's because of the AI in the headphones. Do you have to ask Gerhard LG! I'm sorry.

Hy

So this is definitely ONLY with Y adapter?

No

I just did not read the question so well.

Yes, then only with adapter.

Hy

Okay, all right! Just funny, that the microphone does not work, if I plug the headphones into the jack micro connector purely.

No

Micro jack and headphone jack are both 3-pin. Your plug has no corresponding contact there.

Hy

But the headphone jack works (sound over in Ears)! Only in the micro jack does not work the Micro. At least the micro would have to go?

No

No, not only should not, not even not. Look closely at the 4-pin connector and just think about it.

Hy

Hmm well, is probably also because the headphones are made for mobile phones. On the phone is ALSO the micro.

No

The mobile phone also has a 4-pin socket.

Ok, then one last question to learn something today. If my headphones are 4-pin, but my headphones port on the notebook only 3-pin, why go then the headphones (because the micro does not seem so, because the connection is 3-pin)?

No

,
Mic and headphone plugs (3-pin) are identical.
Mic and headphone jack (3-pin) are also identical.
So in both sockets the same contacts are scanned - and these are obviously the headphone contacts.

If the notebook has two jacks for PHONE and MIC, then you also need to use both jacks. Because the headphone jack has three contacts (L, R, GND) and the microphone jack only 2 (MIC, GND).

Since both sockets use the tip of the plug, in the MIC socket with a 4-pin plug, the contact is not connected to the microphone but to the left speaker. The 2nd ring, on the other hand (microphone signal), is short-circuited to ground in the headphone socket.

It will not work without splinters.
