What do I need for a laptop (computer science)?

I received my Abitur exam results a few days ago and thus received my average - 2.6. Since my average is good enough, I have to study business informatics at a university. I have researched on some websites and found that each page gives different data (some say, for example, that you need at least an Intel i7 processor or similar, others say an i5 is sufficient, etc.). Here are my questions - what kind of laptop do I need to study WI? Is a tablet important in addition to the laptop? Is there anything else I have to consider when studying?

I asked some people around me who had studied something similar, but nobody could give me a good answer.

I would look for a Linux compatible device. At our university, it is expected that programs or the like will run on Linux.

Now about the hardware: Since you will probably also develop software during your studies, I also recommend at least a i5 and at least 8GB RAM and a SSD. The big IDEs in particular are RAM-eaters and when developing, you quickly have 6GB full.

You have to know for yourself whether you need a tablet. I personally don't have one because I prefer to work on a full-fledged laptop. Of course, you can also get a "combi device" where you can flip the keyboard completely and have a tablet integrated.

It doesn't matter whether i5 or i7 - the generation is important. Example; i7-7700 - the 7700 represents the 7th generation.

Should you be able to shimmy along on the rest of the information?

You won't expect a powerful monster, but an office laptop. You will need a certain amount of strength to compile software. 8GB RAM minimum - better 16.

A 400 euro laptop with i3 is enough.

Except you use some special complex programs, but was not the case with us.

Limiting that to the CPU is absolute nonsense. It should be clear that you shouldn't come with an Atom x5 or Pentium Gold. So it should be above the current generation i3. Or a corresponding Ryzen 3 processor.

I think a current i5 with 4 cores / 8 threads is sufficient, 6 cores / 12 threads would be a bit better if you want to compile something

To say flatly you need an i7 is an absolute humbug.

The working memory should already be 16 GB today.

Above all, a sufficiently dimensioned SSD is important.

This is absolutely latte, unless it is an absolute cheap part.

You will even be able to work with a 300 euro laptop. Anything more may just save you waiting time and headaches every now and then.
