Dear community. I will study computer science from October. I have heard that if you study computer science you need a good laptop that you can get somehow cheaper because you need it for your studies. Is that correct? Then does that go through the Bafög? Because I can't imagine that at all. Be happy about any answer
You can deduct the laptop from taxes as an expense for studying. Basically, you can't get it cheaper. And you won't normally need a "good" laptop. Most development environments also run on "normal" laptops.
What prices should I expect?
With a 400-600 euro laptop you can usually do everything you need to study.
I expected 1500 euro xD
At Apple you get student discounts (it doesn't make it cheap). Bafög is simply money, "everything" can be bought "above".
Normal programming tasks all work with a MacBook from 2007. That is not the problem, only if you want to play during the break, which can make sense with 5-hour breaks, you would have to buy something newer.
A completely average laptop is also possible. At the beginning there's usually Eh mostly dry theory. I laugh at myself every winter semester when flocks of students move into the lecture halls with the latest MacBooks. Then it is broken off and the parts resold on the Internet at a fraction of the original price.
Or you use the time to learn.
Exactly, so far.
