Switching from mechanical engineering to IT?

I'm thinking about changing my course of study, I've been studying mechanical engineering for half a year now and in itself I find it really interesting, I've passed all the exams so far and the grades were ok, but now I'm thinking about whether i shouldn't change because i can imagine working on a laptop rather than designing machines or advising customers. Now my question, I never really had anything to do with computer science, I find the course particularly interesting because you are flexible, maybe you can work at home later, how mechanical engineering is also well paid and computer science is also a mint subject. I would say I'm gifted at math and science, but I think that doesn't help that much in computer science?

There's one thing you should be aware of…

Computer science is completely different from mechanical engineering.

In mechanical engineering, you might be planning how to design machines and everything.

But in computer science you mainly write programs in different program languages and that is anything but easy…

No, I'm sure that you have already had something to do with programming in mechanical engineering and if you have had problems there, it will certainly not be too easy for you…

Programming is rather of secondary importance in computer science studies. Much more important (and more difficult) are math and logic.

Yes, I had programming, it wasn't easy, but it wasn't extremely difficult either: / For me, the flexibility in IT is just so attractive… You just work on the PC, you may not be tied to one location, I like that very much.
