Is it bad for my laptop if I never switch it off but simply do not press anything so that the screen goes out (is connected to the monitor so my laptop is already too closed) or is it damaging in the long run.
Usually, laptops, depending on the model, are not designed for continuous operation. Technology wears out over time, but don't think that one can now say that this kills the laptop. I don't like my laptops 24/7, but I do come for a few weeks before… I think it's just personal preference.
Okay, thanks anyway!
I never turn it off, I haven't had any shortcomings yet
In principle, such a device can always remain switched on. Only the battery should not be kept 100% charged.
Otherwise, it depends on whether the laptop has a hard drive or an SSD, and whether the laptop is stationary or moving.
The following applies to Windows energy-saving mode: when the battery is low, the laptop is booted up again briefly in order to write the contents of the memory to the disk. A hard drive turns up again, and if you then z. B. Has in the car and drives over a bump at the wrong moment, at worst it can cause the hard drive to break completely. It should be similar for other operating systems. Therefore I prefer the "hybrid mode" - everything is written to the disk first and then switched to the energy-saving state. When the battery runs low, the laptop can simply switch itself off.
Okay so at is it the case that my laptop is in a fixed place so I basically don't have to worry? I also charge and discharge it so that the battery is not damaged.
In that case, it should be better to remove the battery completely. The only disadvantage: If the power fails, the files on the laptop are just as affected as on a stationary computer.
I think with my laptop this is unfortunately not possible, this is a Lenovo IdeaPad l340 (strictly speaking it is a notebook)
