The problem is a bit too diffuse to googling, so I put my hopes in this regard to the best of my opinion.
Last Saturday, my Acer laptop was hit by a stupid mishap for a short moment and from a distance from the water jet from the shower head. He was on, opened and in battery mode.
After that there were bigger drops everywhere on the case, the screen and the keyboard, but it was not completely soaked. It was rather a very intense form of splashing water.
The screen kept running and he looked undamaged. Of course, my fear was still great, so I tried it, if he still leaves. Everything seemed ok and I started to dry it.
After about 40 seconds then suddenly opened the menu, where you can choose whether you can shut down the device or restart. I wanted to finish it, but before I could do anything, the computer was off.
After that, he did not let himself be powered up anymore, but the LED on the side shone in charging mode when connected to the power outlet. When turned on in this mode, the Acer came after several attempts and he went in, only to go out a few seconds later
I suspected a short circuit and did what I should have done the whole time: I took it off the electricity, unscrewed the case and placed it near the heater for 24 hours so that it could completely dry from the inside. However, I left the battery in it.
After 24 hours, the laptop went into socket operation again without problems and it came the usual procedure in Windows 10 because of "your computer was not shut down properly". After that he left. However, during the test to pull the power plug, it came again to a crash. But I was able to drive him right back up. After that, it worked flawlessly and there were no problems in portable mode, nor with power cord and for the next four days. I used it a lot during that time and I was sure everything was fine.
Tonight it happened again. I watch a Youtube video, suddenly the menu goes back to "Do you want to shut down or restart your computer?" - a second later he is off.
All attempts to get it back on then ended in the screen turning black after a few seconds and the computer was probably off (sometimes not so easy on a laptop).
A few hours later, he got himself back up, installed a few updates, worked normally for maybe 10 minutes and then the same problem again: "Do you want to shut down the computer?" - and then he was off again without me pressing anything or he was really shutting down.
After that again the same problem to get him. Next in the first answer, because character limit.
Everything seems to work fine, but it can happen anytime (now, in 10 minutes, in 10 hours or 10 days) and I want to know what it's all about.
A pure short circuit in the power supply or battery could probably be easiest to fix. However, I'm surprised that every time before the crash opens this restart menu. This almost looks like a software bug, but why should the software be damaged by water?
I definitely want to keep and repair this computer. He was very expensive, I'm very happy with it and I can't afford a new one right now. It is an approximately 6 month old Acer Aspire 5 with 8GB DDR4 Ram, Geforce 940MX, a 256er SSD and Windows 10.
If you need more information about the model, I like to submit it.
I'm grateful for any help that brings me a little closer to the answer, which part of the hardware could be damaged, what exactly is currently running in my computer wrong and how I can fix the problem as inexpensively as possible.
Most of all, I would like to repair it myself or have it repaired privately. With the sending in I have had bad experiences and unfortunately it is not a guarantee.
24 hours are usually not enough, movements are likely to lead to new short circuits. Put this device aside for a few days without electricity! I would also do the BIOS battery, but it does not have to be
Well, unfortunately you did everything wrong, which you could only do wrong, so you do not need to cry now either.
Water destroys any electronics / electrics.
Therefore, the first imperative when water comes into contact with electronics is to turn it off immediately.
Subsequently, the drainage takes place and sustainable and as safe as possible.
Only then you can turn the device back on.
Many Thanks. So you're more likely to go from remaining water remains inside the device than from a permanent damage to the hardware?
This may be. But what do I do most skillfully now, after it has already happened? How do I get the device to function reliably again?
Maybe not anymore?
Subsequently, the drainage takes place and sustainable and as safe as possible.
So disassemble and dry the lapi to make sure it's dry. I doubt that you can do that at all therefore a professional would be helpful.
Nobody can tell you if it's ever going to happen again.
Good luck, because without it's no longer possible.
He is currently running properly. No idea if it crashes again, but if so, I'd like to know what hardware part it is. Then I could exchange that.
Disassembly is relative. I can unscrew the underbody and dry it, but not every single hardware element, because I do not want to damage anything.
Not permanently, but probably still water droplets inside, which always cause weider short circuits
