How do I get my laptop up and running again with an external monitor?

So I have a laptop with a broken display, so I bought an external monitor to get a display again. Everything worked well at first. I then accidentally deleted some important folder (either user folder or Windows). Then he didn't go anymore. So I screwed on my laptop and then took the hard drive to reinstall Windows on my other PC. Then everything went well and then I restart the laptop with the hard drive and Windows and nothing happens as before.

Can someone help me with this problem?

If you install Windows via the PC, the box installs the drivers for the components of the PC. The laptop is / is completely different in terms of hardware, but it is definitely not easy to change the plug. You have to install Windows on the laptop…

What kind of device is it?

If you switch on the laptop and the monitor - connected to the laptop - is already on - do you see anything immediately after switching on? A symbol, some text on a black background - or does the monitor stay completely black?

This is an old Acer Aspire 7736Z

But I'm not going to try it now

You should have a function key on your keyboard (F3 or F5) that you can press together with Fn to switch between internal (defective) and external and both monitors. Try this out!

Usually there's a combination on the keyboard "Fn key" + F5 or F6, I think that is with Acer, so you can choose the screen outputs.
