To those of you who are active in the media and design fields: is it worth investing in an iPad Pro? Assuming you want to try ProCreate, do Youtube and take photos. Do you have the feeling that you can implement your creativity and ideas better with an iPad than with a laptop?
(I'm mainly thinking of the possibilities that the Apple Pencil offers)
I still find the restriction of the software choice too great. That could improve, but at least currently there are still some design programs that are not available for iOS (including some of the Adobe CC programs. Often there's only a slimmed-down version for the iPad).
I would therefore recommend a full-fledged laptop, especially for video editing. That means either a MacBook, or, if you still want a pen, a Surface Pro. This is a full-fledged laptop, but at the same time also a tablet with a pen that is comparable to the Apple Pencil. Alternatively, there's the Surface Book 3, which has a little more steam behind it, but is also larger and heavier.
With the Surface Pro, I would wait for the next generation, the current 7th generation is no longer entirely fresh.
For me it is more of a convenience. I'm in the design field, but I hardly ever draw or only draw for sketches. So it's nice that you can do this on the iPad and don't always have to carry a book with you with several pens (do that with the Concepts app). I also really like the new illustrator iPad app, which I use to make some rough drafts that I then work out on the computer. 3D with shapr3D is also very cool, but in reality almost everyone works on the computer.
take notes for university on the iPad with notability. Very convenient. I can only recommend.
But I have to say that the iPad hasn't radically changed my workflow now. I still do the important work on the computer.
If you do illustration, you will definitely be very happy with Procreate. But I don't do that personally.
I also recommend that you get an iPad Air and you don't need that much storage if you work with clouds. I have 64GB and have been using 30 of them for 2 years.
I use iPad Pro 2018 and I think it's great!
For work, I take notes, transcripts from customer meetings, write down appointments and edit documents in PDF format. And I can share everything for my boss and my colleagues at the same time (here I use GoodNotes)
For my job, I often do sketches, take photos (the resolution is very good) and can put notes and sketches over them (that works very well with Procreate) I can edit technical drawings with Shapre.
In my private life I also use Procreate for drawing and painting, and I create logos and banners in Affinity Designer (vector graphics) which is great. I don't edit videos but a friend does it and it's not a problem at all, he says.
I can definitely recommend it because you can work with it anywhere, because it's light and the batteries are really good at 6-8 hours even when you're working. The pen is also great - better than any PEN display.
Nevertheless, I often use my laptop at home because it makes a difference from 11 to 17 "
Thank you for naming the other devices as alternatives!
Unfortunately, the Ipad limits which software is available. Both are mobile, but the ipad would have the better mobility rate because it is smaller and lighter than lugging around a laptop + graphics tablet.
For me, the software restriction would be a direct win for the laptop. After all, if I just want to sketch, I can do it on a block of paper.
the better alternative here would be a Surface Pro, which is like a mixture of both. You have all windows programs but you can paint on the screen and you also have a folding keyboard.
