C Disk Format?

I want to format my hard drive on my Windows 10 laptop.
How does it work?

Basically, this is not so easy, because Windows can't erase itself during operation. In a new installation, you can choose the option, whether you want to do a repair of the existing system, or a reinstallation. If you want to use the plate for something else, you have to remove it, and Connect to another computer via USB and format it there.

Insert Windows installation medium, start setup. For the hard disk tool, select Formatting, cancel setup. Then the plate is empty

As you already write, Windows installation medium benefits. I also wrote as an answer.
I would never recommend to a layman to extend the hard disk of a laptop itself (that is still the simple part) and then connect it to another PC. (you can do something wrong here).

The easiest way is with a boot stick with the operating system on it. Boot PC from it and format it during the installation process. Either install the OS or cancel the setup.

I also wrote that this should only be the case if you want to use the disk for something else instead of reinstalling Windows 10 again.

Well, but at most if I want to put in a housing to use them as an external.

If I want to retrofit an SSD, for example, and only use the old HDD as a data grave, I can also do that via the installation medium.

If I want to install another OS, the same applies. And what else would you do with the hard drive? Use as a doorstop? Then you do not need formatting. 😁
