Wrong public IP address?

When I go online with my notebook, I have an American IP address, even though I'm surfing from Austria, although I do not use my VPN! Does anyone know the reason?

Aw

Strange. Either you use the VPN or there were no more Austrian IP addresses and you get one from America. But then you would probably get one from Europe…

Co

How do you know you have an American IP?

Have you ever traced the path of a connection with tracert (Trace Route)?

What IP is used at

http://www.wieistmeineip.de

http://www.utrace.de

displayed? The American?

Enter the domain of your provider at http://www.utrace.de. Does it have the American one too?

Ke

There were no more Austrian IP addresses and you get one from America.

This rationale is a bit weak. There are no American or Austrian IP addresses. IP addresses are used by companies, e.g. B. Assigned to Internet Access Providers. These have a company headquarters in some country. As a customer, I always get an IP address from my Internet provider and not just any one that is currently available.

Ke

Two possibilities:

You are using the VPN without even realizing it.
The database you asked for to assign the IP address is faulty.

Maybe you give us the IP address, then I would take a look. You can also leave out the last number block (e.g. 192.0.2.x). Which provider do you use?

Alternatively, you can deactivate the network interfaces of your device and reconnect. If your VPN is unconsciously active, it would reconnect and you would get a different IP address.

You can also look at your router, the public IP address should be there somewhere. This must be identical to the "American" IP address you determined. If it isn't, your VPN is active.

As is myip and other services say I'm from America. That only happens to me on the notebook, the iPad has the right location and provider.

Nordvpn is not configured as an autostart.

Ke

This suggests that the VPN is active on the computer without you having consciously activated it. If I'm to help you, I need more information:

Which IP address is shown to you with wieistmeineip.de? As I said, you can leave out the last block of numbers.

What happens if you deactivate the network interfaces of your notebook and reactivate them? Will the address that you see with wieistmeineip.de change?

Co

Then the cause is clearly to be found in the notebook.

Can you post the first three numbers of the American IP here.

Then you can see who or what is behind it. Proxy or VPN.

Do you have virus protection software on your notebook? Bitdefender also offers VPN as an extra.

Or other software? Tor Browser?

Sa

You're right. Nord VPN does not run as an autostart program, but the service runs automatically. I'm trying to resolve this now, thanks for the help! I feared some malware!

And what if your provider is also active in America and there's really nothing left here?

Ke

Click the start button and type in:

services.msc

So open the administration of the services. Find NordVPN in the list. Change the service from "automatic" to "manual".

With DSL, there's a dial-in, similar to that with the modem at the time. You would have to use an American dial-in node. In addition, all data will go via America. Your provider doesn't want that.

So he will consider another solution such as B. CG-NAT (DS Lite).

Sa

Thanks, already happened!
