My laptop is now so lame that it takes 8 minutes, for example, to boot up and all the desktop icons are there. It used to be different.

This is probably due to an old hard drive and / or insufficient RAM.

The box is an asus e6320 laptop (6gig ram; approx 400 gig HDD)
If possible, install an SSD, then it will certainly run a little better again. Just google the model or see if there are any screws on the case.
