What kind of connection do you need for a docking station?

I would like to get a docking station for my Windows laptop. But my laptop doesn't support Thunderbolt. Now I ask myself: Do you need Thunderbolt for a docking station or is a USB-C port enough?

I wonder if my glasses match my mineral water…

What kind of device do you have anyway? As long as no one knows that, no one will (can) help you.
