I have connected an external microphone to my Samsung laptop (micro / headphones combo jack). The microphone works, however, the laptop no longer outputs the sound through the speakers. What do I have to set in the sound settings so that it works? At the moment, "Speakers" is the default device under playback and "Microphone" is the recording
As you have noticed, the connector is a 4-pin connector which is a microphone and speaker connector.
Since the computer can't know whether the plug is plugged in is both or only one of the two, it automatically sends the loudspeaker signal to this socket.
But you can simply deactivate the audio output device in the sound settings of Windows and only leave the laptop speaker activated.
So… I did it that way. That actually worked, but the playback quality of the loudspeakers was really bad afterwards (totally dull and noisy), as was the recording quality. Then I reactivated the old setting (had to update the driver…). After that, the playback quality was normal again, but again the problem that the loudspeaker boxes do not work when the microphone is plugged in.
