Get a Linux live system (CD / DVD or USB stick), boot the laptop with it and save the pictures.

this is not wrong, there seems to be an error in the file system (formatting). Any attempts could lead to deletion of the files, because even the Windows programs are certainly affected.
With Linux, a "neutral outsider" will be able to handle it better.
