So far I'm connected to the internet with my laptop (Windows 10) via WLAN. But I want to set up a LAN connection. How does it work? LAN cable is connected to the router.
Hi. The cable must be connected from the router to the computer. No more is needed.
So I put it in and it worked. Before that, you have to deactivate your WLAN card or adapter (whatever that means) in the device manager. Simply select, right click and deactivate
Sometimes yes
LAN cable is connected to the router.
You have to logically put that into the laptop.
Before that you have to deactivate your WLAN card or adapter (whatever that means) in the device manager.
This is bad advice! You only have a problem if you want to use Wi-Fi, because it won't work without activation!
When you plug in a LAN cable, Windows automatically connects to the cable. If you unplug, Windows changes back to WLAN.
That was the case with me, and the case is also far too unlikely. And if you do need Wi-Fi again, you can still activate it anyway.
So in my long career in IT support, I very often noticed that someone unintentionally (switch or button on the notebook) deactivated the WLAN and therefore had no network connection. But the fact that you have to deliberately deactivate WLAN because of the network cable has never been the case - and neither of my colleagues has ever experienced this.
I'm really happy. But I think I know how it was with me, a long career in IT support or not.
