Is a fluctuating 'visual acuity' 'normal?

Recently I needed a pair of glasses and still have to get used to constantly having something on my nose. I'm short-sighted and it bothers me to wear glasses in closed or especially in smaller rooms. Firstly, because of my nearsightedness, I'm almost always close to objects, secondly, I do not have progressive lenses, and thirdly, the eyewear frame disturbs me in the all-round view. Now I've found that on some days, even without the glasses, I get along well with seeing into the distance, and at others, I'm shocked at how bad I can see into the distance. Sometimes it even seems to me that the visual impairment has moved further 'forward' or becomes noticeable even in a short distance. For example, when I was sitting in front of the laptop for several hours a day because of my studies, I do not even recognize the faces of pedestrians on the sidewalk while driving without my glasses. That always shocks me. In addition, this visual impairment was unfortunately very sudden for me.

Are such fluctuations normal and can something be done about that?

Naturally. If you do not wear your Bille and spend hours looking at a laptop, you'll spend hours staring at your eyes. Because even if you do not admit it, you also tighten it on nearby objects.

Even your eyes are "tired" and then let go. Especially since you as a wearer / in any case should not drive without glasses car.

I always wear it while driving! Fortunately, my weakness is not too strong either

I know all this for over 40 years exactly as described. And visual acuity fluctuations vary according to your personal condition. And you learn to add more: For example, that the brain has to get used to a pair of glasses, that half or rimless glasses have advantages, which purpose have coatings, etc. Who does not have to save, so can buy several glasses. In any case, I do not want to miss progressive lenses anymore. And then there are methods to get your own vision partially or completely back.

If you have the feeling on some days that you do not need glasses at all and look inferior to others after you have done a lot of close-up work, it might be worth considering whether you are really short-sighted at all. There are such things as accommodation cramps through a lot of near vision - maybe you have something in the way somehow. If you're really shortsighted, you're always, so the fluctuations are usually not that sometimes you do not need glasses.

If you have the whole problem caused by close work, you should probably do less close work and look more at a great distance. Maybe there will be again, because apparently you have only low values.

Overall, I would wear the glasses anyway, if absolutely necessary. So when reading and so is for a short-sighted in principle unnecessary.
