Should I take the HDD hard drive out of the laptop?

My data D: The hard drive broke yesterday and no longer works. I bought a new EXTERNAL drive to have a replacement. But I wonder if I should take the hard drive out and then do everything again. So that there's no HDD hard drive in it and only the standard SSD hard drive is in it. Should I just leave this place in the laptop empty when I remove the hard drive?

It doesn't matter at all. If the hard drive continues to spin, you can remove it. That saves battery and is quieter. You can then leave the job vacant!

It would be better if you simply replace the HDD with an SSD.

So remove the HDD, install the SSD.
