Hi, my NAS and my laptop are on the same network, yet I can't access my NAS through the browser. It was freshly formatted and received the befitting IP address with 169.254.xxx.xxx. How do I reach them in the browser? I'm not an IT professional, so I need help.

Well… Because your laptop has just in the same network as the NAS.

The 169,254. But it is an APIPA.

That means you have to give your NAS another "reasonable" IP. There ideally one, which is also in the same net as your laptop.

For details, see the manual of the NAS.

Ma

169.254 … Does that mean your NAS did not get IP from your router's DHCP.

Ka

Received the befitting IP address with 169.254.xxx.xxx.

This is not an address from your network, but the NAS has added an auxiliary address.

Synology has e.g. A tool (Synology Assistant), so you get to the config. The NAS and can manually enter a valid address from your network there.

Each NAS manufacturer offers a Finder, which reaches the temporary address of the NAS. Normally, your local subnet should be 192.168.x.x with 192.168.x.1 for the router. A 169.254 network rather indicates that a device does not find a dhcp server and is now looking for its own address.

If it is urgent, you should hire a professional. He probably gets that fast, but wants to see some money. If you do not want to pay, stay here and please document your network.

Address of the router, address of the laptop.
