For music production nothing leads me past a mac.
depending on what you want to produce, of course. But under windows I always had to fiddle for ages to get the latencies of my guitar down… The mac is just small.
The garage band itself is already good to recorden and effect.
but for sensible recording I'll take cubase.
Relevant for music applications are the performance of the processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed and size of the mass storage. So you should just look for the best laptop in this regard you can afford. (Due to the poor price-performance ratio, I'd rather not look at Apple.
There's absolutely no reason to use a Mac for anything other than Logic. With the same processor, no running background programs and the same audio interface with a decent driver, the same latencies can be reached under Windows and MacOS.
