Is the BIOS battery out?

I have an old laptop (Toshiba Satellite L350D-200 from 2008 or so) in my rehearsal room. Recently, you can no longer turn it on regularly. You can hear the hard drives start up, but nothing happens after that. Usually, an LED also indicates that the CPU is running.

Only when I press the button directly after connecting the plug ("CPU" LED lights up very briefly) does it start up regularly. However, if you miss the right time, the above described happens.

What could be the problem? Maybe the internal battery has something to do with it?

EDIT: The battery is outside, only the power supply is plugged in.

If the BIOS battery is empty you can recognize this by the incorrect time… Date in the BIOS.

It may well be that the CMOS is no longer buffered due to an empty battery.

As a rule, however, the computer then stops with a BIOS / EFI error message when starting up.

Do you have the correct time / date after the makeshift startup?

Have you exchanged the battery since 2008?

I think your battery is dead.

I already had it… Just take the battery out completely and try it only with the power cord… I did it… The empty button cell usually has nothing to do with booting - if it is empty, you will get a message about the date and time entry directly after switching on.

The arithmetic operator notices this at POST

I haven't had one in a while

I tend to bet on the power supply. Power jack or the like.

As soon as it is on, everything is going well. Is also no loose contact or the like.
