Transfer LapTop screen to other monitor?

I want to transfer the screen of my laptop to a monitor (screen area wider than the screen area of the laptop) and still have 2 questions:

Is there a drastic restriction on the resolution?
Is the format of the image the same or does it fit the monitor? If not, can it be set?

It should adapt to the screen when you expand it (in Windows, no idea if macos can), you mirror the screen, it looks like on the laptop

Do you want the second screen to display the same as the laptop screen?

Then, depending on your settings, it can either be a distorted (stretched) image, or a black border. It may also be that your laptop screen adapts to the image of the second screen.

You can also show a different picture on the second screen, then the picture looks normal.

How do you want to transfer your screen? Do you connect the monitor as a 2nd monitor to your laptop?

Either extend the desktop: Then the two monitors are controlled separately and can also have different resolutions.

Or duplicate the desktop. Then the resolution is actually fixed, that is, the monitor is driven with the same resolution as your display from the laptop.
